“Real learning gets to the heart of what it means to be human. Through
learning we re-create ourselves. Through learning we become able to do something we never were able to do. Through learning we reperceive the world and our relationship to it. Through learning we extend our capacity to create,
to be part of the generative process of life. There is within each of us
a deep hunger for this type of learning.”

—Peter Senge,
The Fifth Discipline

Here are some books I strongly recommend:

Impro—Improvisation and the Theatre
Keith Johnstone
Routledge New York

The introduction and the first chapter are a must-read. Impro reminds us of our infinite possibilities, and that our “educations” have often kept us from taking advantage of them.

improv wisdom—Don’t Prepare, Just Show Up
Patricia Ryan Madsen
Bell Tower Press

Great primer for non-improvisers on using the improv communications principles in daily life.

Discussion as a Way of Teaching—
Tools and Techniques for Democratic Classrooms
Stephen D. Brookfield and Stephen Preskill

Jossey-Bass

This book is choc full of exercises and ways to facilitate discussions so that everyone’s voice is heard.
